AAA Joins North Austin Properties, City and Local Nonprofits for Public Safety Forum

Posted By: Hannah Garcia Article of the Week,

On Saturday, March 8th, the North Austin Civic Association hosted a Multifamily Crime & Safety Forum at the North Austin YMCA. District 4 Council Member Chito Vela, Austin Police, Austin Fire, Austin Code Enforcement, nonprofits, local businesses, and multifamily properties discussed crime, public safety, and resources for residents facing food insecurity, domestic violence, and other challenges.

Telemundo covered the event. You can view their coverage here.

The Austin Apartment Association (AAA) participated in the discussion. Emily Blair, AAA Executive Vice President, shared information on the association’s advocacy, education on regulations, and professional development resources. The Association remains committed to not only serving as the voice of the multifamily industry but also connecting our members to other resources including attorneys, landscaping professionals, contractors and city departments.

Austin Police introduced the “Crime Free Multifamily Housing” program, aimed at making properties safer. They will host an 8-hour training on Crime Prevention through Environmental Design. We would like to thank AAA member, Allen Vaughn, for spearheading this event. In conjunction with the North Austin Civic Association, Vaughn brought together this group to focus on solutions and improving the quality of life for residents. It is work like this that begins the conversation on how we can support residents, property owners and businesses in the community.
